# Authentication

The Chainabuse API uses Basic Authentication to authenticate requests.

### Generate your API key

You can generate your API key by **logging in and navigating your profile (top right of the navigation bar) >  View Profile > Settings > API key.**

### Authenticate

Once you have your API key, enter your organization's API key in both the Username and Password fields to authorize under the **API section** right here: [https://docs.chainabuse.com/reference/reports-1](https://docs.chainabuse.com/reference/reports-1)

**HTTP Authorization Scheme**: `basic`
